Officers from the Nassau County Police Department responded to the Jones Beach Hotel in Wantagh at approximately 12:20 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, where there was a reported robbery in progress.

Police said that East Hartford resident Justin Gagnon, 35, entered the hotel and approached the front desk, demanding that a 23-year-old male victim give him money from the register while he wielded a handgun.

The victim complied, then a second struggle took place with the 62-year-old female manager of the hotel. During that struggle, the man at the front desk was able to wrestle the gun from Gagnon, and the fight continued outside the hotel, at which point, a third person assisted them in restraining Gagnon until Nassau County Police officers arrived.

Both of Gagnon’s victims suffered minor injuries. Gagnon was transported to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation, police said.

Gagnon was charged with robbery, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal use of a firearm. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday, Sept. 27 at First District Court in Hempstead.
